We are succesfully back into running after some down time. After reading "Born to Run", we were on fire and we went all in. We bought Vibram's to get started. They are a lot of fun but after a few weeks of pounding the pavement I came down with planter faciitis. OUCH. Every morning I would wake up, step out of bed and painfully walk around. After about 5 min. the pain would go away but after sitting for 10 min or so, when I would go to walk again the pain would return. We then started reading up a little more about barefoot runnin and found a great book called "Barefoot Running" We learned that we had done it all backwards and it led to much pain. I took some down time to heal and then started back very slowly and I mean very slowly. It was a bit frustrating, because we were up to 2 miles a day and it was feeling great. Now I am barely doing 1 mile. But my pain is much less and I know this will lead to a much healthier running lifetime. We also found a great tool called "the stick". You use it to roll out your muscles. It has been a lifesaver. You can do it for yourself so that saves you a bundle on massage ( spouse or professional =). I am enjoying running so much more know and look forward to a long healthy running life!
